Mess or Everyday
My concept in one word is "Mess". I wish I could've been working on things more but it feels like everything is falling apart in my personal life and every time I try to work on this I can't really get anywhere. The thing on the top is a washing machine with my car's gear shift in it. It broke down this weekend in Asheville so I had to get towed from there and then my partner's parents had to come get us. I put the road because we can never get away from it and every time we drive it's a cycle of going somewhere and coming back. It's a similar thing with the gear shift and washing machine, we always come back (and they have their own cycles). I added my hamster because when I come home I see him. I am realizing that another concept could be "everyday". Sorry if I shared too much. Please let me know some more ideas if you have some. I'm feeling stuck.
I'd just like to say, I hope things get better for you! :)
ReplyDeleteAlso your hamster is very cute.
I think your idea has a lot of potential because you could really go crazy with your image. It's kinda hard to see the washing machine tho since the gear shift overpowers it. To bring back the idea of a washing machine, maybe you include laundry. Unrelated to what you have, maybe even dirty dishes or even random junk around your area. Maybe your hamster is the one trying to hold things together?
Your concept seems very fleshed out and the concept of the endless road is very poetic. I think getting some aerial shots of roads off the internet could lead somewhere interesting in terms of texture or background or layout. I think the hamster in this photo is bit out of place and not tied to the image but it's cute. I really like the effect on the washer/gear shift.
ReplyDeleteI hope things get better for you! This semester is a weird one for sure. I like your image in the way the textures and colors coincide, but I will say the concept is a little confusing for me. That being said, I know it’s something that’s developed along the way. Also, I agree, even though your hamster is super adorable it feels a little out of place. But you can definitely tie it in in some way by developing the concept and imagery more.
ReplyDeleteI love the effect that you have on your image so far! I love the concept as well, I think you did a really good job at relating it to you. It's a concept that is understandable to a viewer when looking at this image. I also to agree about the hamster placement, is there anything else that you could substitute it with? Maybe a stop watch or a clock. I think that might be able to help those who don't understand the concept to understand it better.
ReplyDeleteHi Haley,
ReplyDeleteJust know that it is okay to not be okay as well as to take some time for yourself. Your mental health is just as important as your physical health. 2020 has been the year that just keeps on giving for a lot of us. (Its not very good gifts, kinda like getting dirty socks for Christmas) You're not alone and its okay to reach out and talking about things.
Maybe you can channel some of the negative things going on in your life right now into your project? maybe you can turn your gear shifter at the top into a big spider-like monster? He can eat cars or something maybe make it into something sillu. Or another idea is that it could be a black sun? Maybe you can even turn the image into something spooky by making the images black and white making them more eerie looking?
I am looking forward to your project, take care and stay safe!
Hey, I hope things get better for you but in the meantime, you can find some rest and time for yourself. Everything is harder these days and it's completely valid (and necessary!) to take things slower than you're being asked to.
ReplyDeleteFor your image, it sounds like you have some solid concepts but in the spirit of "mesS", they're pretty jumbled together so it's showing in your image. The big washing machine/gear shift dominates the whole image right now. Thinking of ways to integrate that piece with the image of the road, maybe by overlaying the texture you have already and distorting everything all together?
